A NEW MINIBUS FOR ST RAPHAEL'S

We need to raise £43,575 to provide our daycare patients with a much-needed new minibus. So far we have received donations totalling £24,564 and a pledge of £10,000, leaving us with just over £8,000 still to raise.
Can you help?

Awards for All

Big Lottery Fund logo

Our thanks to “Awards for All” a part of the Big Lottery Fund (National Lottery) for financing the cost of producing a promotional DVD to publicise the work of St Raphael’s Hospice. This work is due to start in Autumn 2010 and is due to be completed by March 2011.

The film will help people to learn about the role of the Hospice in our community and what it means to patients and their families.

Department of Health

Thank you to the Government’s Department of Health for a grant that will cover the cost of refurbishing our 14 patient bathrooms, the hospice mortuary and nurses stations outside each bedroom. This work will start in September 2010 and is due to be completed by March 2011.

We have previously received a grant from the Department of Health that enabled the internal fabric of the building to be refurbished through new carpets, curtains etc and the extension of the Day Centre which was transformed into a much lighter, airier room.

But we should also add, that although grateful to have received both these “capital” grants for building works and refurbishments to be undertaken, none of the above money goes to the annual running costs of the hospice, for which we still have to raise £3 million a year from charitable fundraising, donations and legacies, which is some three-quarters of the annual income needed by the hospice.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation

Thank you for the recent donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. This, combined with other funding will go towards the ‘Our Place’ project which is to re furnish our galley area, a space which is used as a waiting room by patients for doctors appointments, and is also a general visiting space for patients and families. We want to buy new sofas, side tables, lamps, curtains and make it a much more pleasant environment. We have now received all the funding required for this project and will happily be shopping soon!

Listening Books

Our thanks to Listening Books, who have donated a large range of CDs of fiction and non-fiction on MP3 to St Raphael’s Hospice, including popular authors such as Catherine Cookson, Marian Keyes, Bill Bryson and John Grisham for use by our patients. The audiobook mini-library service has been given completely free of charge and the patients of St. Raphael’s Hospice are amongst the first to benefit. For many people with a life-limiting illness receiving hospice care audiobooks will help to provide welcome relief from pain, discomfort and loneliness. The listening books can be accessed via the Nursing staff.

Caron Keating

Thank you to the Caron Keating Foundation, who have given St Raphael's Hospice £5,000 towards in house entertainment for Day Care patients and for furniture in our family seating area 'The Galley'
