Feedback from Relatives
St Raphael’s Hospice cares for 900 patients and families each year. Each individual is unique. Each family has its own special memories and stories. Here are just a few of the letters we have received. We thank each of them for allowing us to print their words and photographs.
Celia with her husband RogerCelia Cady"The relief which we felt from the moment it was decided that she would be able to stay at St Raphael’s grew day by day as we observed the professional and so personal care which she received. The Christian ethos of the hospice and the consideration and concern which enveloped Celia, me and the whole family was evident from the beginning to the end. I express our deep gratitude to your dedicated staff." Roger Cady (Husband), Carshalton. |
David LuxfordDavid Luxford"Thank you so much for the wonderful care and kindness you showed Sandra Luxford (Wife), Norbury, SW16 |
Michael with his mother.Marie Stephens"No words can describe her loss to us, but what is extremely comforting to us is the knowledge of the care provided to her by yourselves in every capacity during her stay with you, and her continued care when she returned home to us for a short period." Michael with his mother. Michael Stephens (Son) |
Kevin with his model plane “Zero” which he flew with his son at Epsom Downs.Kevin Boyton"To all the Doctors and Nurses at St Raphael’s. My son Richard and I would like to thank you so much for the kindness and care that you gave to Kevin in his last few days of life. after a year of much pain. We could not have wished for a better place for Kevin to spend his final days. A big thank you to the staff who helped us through this sad time. Our thoughts will always be with you." Pamela Boyton (Wife), Morden. |
![]() Janice Wyeth"My sincere thanks to all of you for the tender care and dedication given to my daughter, Janice Wyeth and to my family during Janice’s stay with you. We found it very reassuring that she was able to be at St Raphael’s, and that I was with her when she died so peacefully." Gwen Hammond (Mother), New Malden.
Philip Hammond and Gwen Hammond"The most important thing you all did was to win her trust. Janice wanted to fight and everyone backed her up. Housekeepers, caterers, nursing and palliative staff all made a huge difference by recognising Janice as a person and empathising with her. The way you supported Janice enabled her to cope in her own way. We all thank you for it." Philip Hammond (Brother), New Malden. |
Jennie with her mum, Joan.Joan Bartlett"To All the wonderful staff. I am sure many people write and thank you, but it is so important to remind you all that the work you do is amazing. During my dear mum Joan Bartlett’s short stay with you at the end of her life we were all treated with such care. Mum’s last words to me were “I’m very lucky” and that is because she was calm and secure and cossetted in St Raphael’s. Every person we came into contact with made us feel special and important to them. To be able to pass from this life with such dignity is wonderful. Please pass on our thanks to Jennie Withers (Daughter), Carshalton |

It was a hideous time for me, but very comforting indeed to know that she was without doubt in the right place. I still find things very difficult with the loss of my dear Rita, but I can’t thank the hospice and all the nurses and staff enough for the help that they gave us in those final days." Pat Jeanes (Husband), Carshalton Beeches. |
